CONTINUING EDUCATION CLOCK HOURS(CEU’s) FOR DIRECTORS, PRINCIPALS, AND SUPERINTENDENTS

Under MN Rule 3512.1200 all licensed administrators must accumulate 125 continuing education credits (CEU's) prior to being granted a Minnesota licensure renewal.

“Clock hours” means hours of actual instruction or supervised group activities in a Minnesota administrative and supervisory continuing education program. All continuing education programs, and the clock hours which may be earned in each program must be approved by the Board of School Administrators. If clock hours are to be earned, approval must be secured before participants are registered in a continuing education program.

Most initiators of continuing education program apply to the Board of School Administrators for pre-approval of their program and will issue attendees a certificate from the Board for the number of hours of engagement in the activity.

Programs are approved for period of time up to two years. The Board will issue a new certificate if and when notified of change of dates. A program will be approved if it meets the requirements of the rules and if the Board of School Administrator determines that the program is adequate to fulfill the purposes of continuing education requirements.

The certificates should not be forwarded to the Board of School Administrators. Each school administrator is responsible for collecting the certificates he/she accumulated during the 5-year period prior to licensure renewal. Upon the renewal request the certificates should be forwarded, along with the renewal application, to the Department of Education Educator Licensing and Teacher Quality Services for processing.
